I was in an abusive relationship ages 16-20. Fifteen years later, I am still coming to terms with what happened to me. This blog is part of my recovery. I also hope to help other women currently in this situation as well as those who have left. The Beyond battered blog will culminate in a book project. This blog and book are dedicated to all women and children who have lost their lives as a result of domestic violence.

I don’t know what to say…I didn’t know this about you Trula.

While I have not been abused, my mother was with my father for over 13 years in a physically abusive marriage. She divorced him over 15 years ago, and even now it still brings me to tears. I think about the times he tried to burn her by pushing her face against a lit gas stove, her lying motionless on the ground, the pain and suffering she went through it brings up so many emotions. There were times I really though my mother was going to die. I hated my father for what he done, yet loved him at the same time. I remember vowing to God the next time he aid a hand on her, I was gonna step in. Well, it must have been the grace of God who saved me, because after that he never did hit her again and shortly after she ended the marriage. Maybe, one of these days I too will write about what it was like from a child’s perspective. Until then, thanks for sharing Trula.
