I think you were remarkably calm about this issue. I absolutely cannot believe this teacher said that. The idea of seeing black boys as grown men almost from birth is so frustrating to me. I know I’ll have to deal on some level.

BTW, you really should put ‘Bop’ on the mailboxes. At the very least it freak your neighbors the hell out.

It is very frustrating, and hurtful, but I am determined not to let stuff like this physically hurt me as well as emotionally hurt me, you know? Black people in America in general have a shorter life span than white Americans. I think a large part of that is the wear and tear on our bodies from getting upset, irate, whatever you want to call it about acts of racism big and small. While of course blowing up about this is justifiable, to me that’s like allowing people like this to control me and get me to cause tremendous suffering to myself. I don’t have to allow this to make my blood pressure rise, really.

LOL on the mailbox!! Actually my neighbors are pretty cool, we have lived here for some years now and they are accustomed to us. They wouldn’t be surprised or freaked out by that at all.

Oh too bad. My neighbors are still freaking over my clothesline.
