The deadline for submitting a workshop proposal for the 2007 Allied Media Conference has been extended to March 23rd! I am submitting a workshop proposal and was thinking about doing a panel discussion. Would any of you be interested in doing this with me? I find doing a panel discussion a little easier than conducting a workshop alone, and I’ve been part of panel discussions at various events including Mamagathering 2004, Cleveland Zinefest 2005, Cleveland BW 2006, and more. What do you think, are you interested? A little about the event:

The Allied Media Conference is an annual, weekend-long gathering of influential alternative media-makers and committed social justice activists. The AMC brings together a unique cross-section of media workers, community organizers, daring filmmakers, ambitious radio producers, serious publishers, skilled web designers, and artists whose work “makes revolution irresistible.” This year’s theme focuses on participatory media that transforms the producer and receiver, “Breaking Silence, Building Movements.”

The Allied Media Conference brings together a phenomenal cross-section of media workers: daring filmmakers, ambitious radio producers, serious publishers, skilled web designers, and artists whose work “makes revolution irresistible.”

The 9th annual Allied Media Conference will be held June 22-24, 2007 in Detroit, Michigan. It is organized by a team of activists in Detroit, supported by many local organizations and long-time conference participants from around the country. Registration is on a sliding scale and we provide some travel stipends to ensure a wide range of participation from all across the country.

# Panel discussions should incorporate diverse perspectives. Please include background information on speakers.
# Presentations can utilize case studies to teach broader lessons, but they should not just be showcases for individual projects or organizations.
# Film programs should be 65-75 minutes long.

There is no pay for presenting a workshop or panel discussion but – you will make lots of contacts and you can get a table and sell your book/zine/CD/whatever project. You will also get many hits to your website and sales from people you met at the AMC long after it’s over. You will also learn so much from attending other folks’ workshops and talking to other people in indie media; it is worth your while to go. So if you are interested in presenting a panel discussion with me let me know!
