So if you didn’t know I have 3 children by 3 different men. I am married to Dad #3, but still go by my maiden name (’cause I just don’t understand why I should change my name to his, so I didn’t, and he’s cool with that). My kids each have a different last name. At one point in time (we have been together 10 years, married for 7) he was going to adopt my two older children, but we discontinued that for various reasons, mostly because the kids need that name connection to their bio dads and bio paternal family.

But – the kids have all mentioned wanting to have a family name that includes all of us. My initial suggestion was adding my last name to everyone’s name, but it’s kinda long, so they all vetoed that. I can understand that, I’d like a short name myself. So the name I chose was…Bop!

LOL! I just love this name, it’s short and funny. Can you imagine? Trula Bop, Brian Bop, Iyende Bop, Scott Bop, and Todd Bop. of course no one else in my family thinks this is cute or funny at all, but I love it. I even gave everyone a Bop nickname: b-bop (Brian, also known as bop-daddy), i-bop (Iyende), s-bop (Scott), t-bop (Todd), and me, mama-bop. tee hee!

Well, I went overboard in my bop-usage. I have been banned from using these nicknames in my household, at their schools, around their friends, and in Brian’s case, co-workers (LOL!). I can see their point. When the school secretary calls over the intercom, ‘t-bop your mother dropped off your lunch’ maybe it’s gone too far, LOL. So I will get my bop fix by using it on this blog. The purpose of this post is so ya’ll will know who I’m talking about when I’m all, i-bop this, t-bop that, s-bop this, b-bop that.

and for all their grumbling about Bop as a last name, none of them have come up with another name. Hmmmmmmm.

*edited to add*
Just to clarify, I was not talking about a legal name change here, just an in-house fun family name for us all to use. I still feel that it’s important for my kids to have their fathers’ name. If we ever did a legal name change it would be to add the new family name in as a middle name for each child, and keep their last names the same.

This is cute and a collective family name is a wonderful idea.

    Thank you being mama daily!

The only reason they wanted a family name in the first place was because they wanted us to put one of those family name signs by the road and on the mailbox.

yes, we live in one of ‘those’ neighborhoods.

    *covering face in shame*
