We had an ok Easter! We are not a christian family nor pagan but Brian and I appreciate the fertility/spring/renewal aspects of the easter holiday. and the kids love the candy; they got baskets from us and also had a easter egg hunt at my MIL’s. There were unfortunately 2 deaths in my family this past week, my dad’s sister passed away before easter and my mom’s 3rd cousin (who was more like an aunt to my mom) died after easter. My mom was in Texas for a conference at the time of my aunt’s passing but my dad came up to see us after her funeral. My mom got back home early this morning and left out right away to go to her aunt’s funeral in north carolina.

I did not know my aunt very well but I felt so hurt for my father. My dad was very sad, but he said spending time with us helped a lot. Some pics:

The easter baskets I made for the kiddies, out of cardboard boxes, pics of the kids, crayons, newspaper, and blue duct tape. I started making these about 5 years ago because we were broke one easter and could not afford baskets, and they were such a hit I made them every year since:

My dad with the boys:

This pic is from when my dad was sitting at the dining room table holding his head in his hands. Iyende asked him what was wrong and he said he was just so cold (when he came back from the funeral he kept saying how cold he was. We turned the heat up to 80 and he still felt cold, so I figured it was a symptom of his grief) so she went and got him her favorite Hello Kitty blanket and Hello Kitty doll. Then she sat and held his hand for a while. I just love this pic; you can tell he felt much better:

That is sooooo beautiful.(I LOVE that photo)

This weekend I learned that grandchildren are the true panacea for hurting grandparents. I took my babies to see my father after years of rejecting the idea and we all grew taller in our hearts as a result of their meeting.

Sweet prayers to you and your family members.
