From my friend Gloria’s Blog:
Mamis, you need to share your stories!

Our organization got contacted by the same group who publishes the now-famous women’s health books “Our Bodies Ourselves”. The oddest thing is that I JUST wrote a piece a few days ago on the Boston Women’s Health Collective (the group who started publishing these books in the 70s) so they’ve been on my mind…Now they’re doing a new book on pregnancy and childbirth and are need stories from Latina women and ALL women of color regarding: pregnancy/labor/childbirth/pregnancy loss/breastfeeding/circumcision/the first year of parenting. Or you might want to talk about how your culture affected your child’s birth or your expectations.

The idea is to show a broad spectrum of experiences within our maternal care system and how women and babies do under this system. The contact from the org also stated that those of us with alternative birth experiences (I gave birth at home, for instance) need to share our stories to give other options for mamis-to-be.

Go to this link for more info online.

Please note: they are very concerned that the voices they have so far–and these are from focus groups and submissions all over the country–are *only* from upper-middle class straight white women (I could have told them that was gonna happen!) and they do need other stories. So if you’re a mami of color or if you know other mothers of color, please consider being part of this or passing the info on.

Thx,
La Gloria
