I am sick as a dog. I think I have strep throat. This really sucks. At the hint of a cough, I boil a yellow onion or two in 2-3 cups of water then drink the boiled onion water. It usually works! I haven’t used an OTC cough and cold remedy in over 3 years. Well it did work, on the kids, but not on me. Bleh, I have to go to the doctor. I am taking the boys too even through they are better today, just in case it’s strep. I had strep before about 8, 9 years ago, and it felt like this. I feel horrible and cranky and mean-spirited. My throat feels like it’s on fire and I feel very cold because I have a fluctuating fever. My joints ache, and I’m all snotty. I hate hacking and spitting up gobs. Lord have mercy.

Happy Belated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We spent yesterday as a family hanging out and being together in our sickness, and between bouts of hacking we talked about Dr. King and what a great man he was. My kids don’t feel at all removed from the civil rights movement, because both my parents were active in it. They have living relatives (my god, my mother is only 58!) who have given them first-hand accounts of what those times were like. I think waaaaaaaay too many Americans feel like this ‘stuff’ is ancient history or something. And it’s not. It’s only 2 generations ago and racism is still going strong in this country.

RIP, Dr, King. RIP. We love and honor you forever.
