This is something I’ve been musing on for a while. I think I have a style of clothing and of home decor, but I am not consistent with it. I make and wear my own clothes often, but quite often I am walking around in sweatpants and big t-shirts or sweatshirts of my husband’s. And in my house, I am a big reader so have books in all the rooms of my house, including the bathrooms, but generally speaking they are strewn haphazardly about or stacked up. I like big plants, so I have quite a few of those, but not as many as I’d like or set out like I’d like.

Also I plan to update my makeup, I am going to get a makeover at the MAC counter with my friend Samira soon. I am cool with my hair, dreadlocks are my personal hairstyle, I love my hair. My hair is getting real long, though, so I plan to learn how to do better buns or whatever. Right now when I want my hair out of the way I either tie it up or wear a bandana.

More on clothes…I like long skirts and solid colors. In the summer I prefer sleeveless tops like the one I’m wearing in the photo. I made that top last summer, I love that top! I detest shorts and don’t really like pants because of my body shape. I am very round in the rear but have a small waist, so pants rarely fit me right. I always have this huge gap in the waist and have to wear a belt. and shorts, ugh. Most shorts make my legs look bunchy and fat and I look shorter than I am. Long skirts tend to give me a longer, leaner look and balance out my rear end with my top.

On jewelry, I tend not to wear any except earrings. I recall loving to wear bangles and bracelets when I was younger, though, I might re-visit that. I used to make these big beaded bracelets. I sometimes will wear a cowrie shell necklace or a necklace my kids gave me. I have to think some more about jewlry and how I’ll incorporate it into my personal style.
